New CNN Polling Spells Trouble for the GOP

CNN has some new polling data and the results are not good for the GOP. Here are some of the key results:

**Among likely voters, 58% say they will vote for Democrats as opposed to 37% for Republicans. Up 5% in a week.**

Bush's Job approval is down to 39% while Congress' approval rating is down to 28%.

Ther Foley matter is having a quick and dramatic impact: 75% think GOP Leaders handled it inappropriately; 52% believe there was a deliberate coverup; and 52% think Hastert should resign.

In the world of politics it's definitely way too soon to say that the Democrats are going to cruise to huge victories in November, but this is great news nonetheless.

Ned Lamont won 7 of 8 counties last night, losing only in greater New Haven county. Lamont however won the big cities of Hartford, New Haven and Meriden.

Lemont said in his victory speech, "Let's send some leaders to Washington DC to start fighting for the common interest, to start fighting for the common good. It is time to fix Congress. We have 132,000 of our bravest troops stuck in the middle of a bloody civil war in Iraq and I say it is high time that we bring them home to a heroes welcome."

Lamont has said he would push for a quick withdrawal of U.S. troops from Iraq. A CNN poll this morning show 60% of Americans believe that it was a mistake to invade Iraq. Incumbents of both parties responsible for a failed foreign policy are now seeing the first indication of how voter anger will play out in this fall's elections.

Polling sites across Connecticut are reporting a large turnout -40-50% of votors have already cast their vote as of 3pm eastern. The polls close at 8pm so totals are expected to rise as after-work voters make their way to the their polling places. Many reports from voting sites across the state are indicating an empowered electorate that may be sending a message to all politicians locally, and across the country. Incumbents of both parties take heed!

Joe Lieberman's campaign website (www.joe2006.com) has been "unavailable" for most of voting day here in Connecticut. Some media sources claim that an "unpaid bill" may have left it in the dark. Although the website host provider may now have been paid (due to the outage), national and world interest in gaining access to the site have simply over-taxed the Web Servers and essentially shut them down. Chris Mathews of MSNBC is reporting live about the incident from the streets of New Haven which is not helping matters since there are few Web Servers that can handle the load of 100's of thousands of simultaneous "hits" unless pre-configured.

-about to vote here in Connecticut so let me sum up for you what is about to happen. The anti-war and impeach Bush movement has begun, and Joe Lieberman is about to be the first victim. This is not a one issue vote. National media doesn’t get it, but have they ever? Voters of ALL parties are enraged over climbing gas, electric and home heating oil prices, Federal and local taxes rising and out of control, a do-nothing Congress spending billions in Iraq and Israel that results in more and more death and destruction, the loss of respect of this great country by millions of people of worldwide, dependency on foreign energy that is nothing short of dereliction of duty by all elected officials, a President who appears intellectually and emotionally incapable of leading us out of this mess……that is the message the Joe Lieberman will get from Democrats today.
